Organizational Background

Established in 2016, redefinED atlanta’s vision is to transform Atlanta into a place where every student in every community receives a great K-12 public education. We accomplish this work by engaging communities, advocating for equity, and funding critical work to drive systemic level improvement in K-12 public education for students and families.

Now in our eighth year of operation, with a solid foundation of deep funding partnerships, a diverse and engaged board, and an entrepreneurial team, redefinED atlanta is ready to chart the course for years ahead anchored in our commitment to racial equity and inclusion. We will support the growth of community power and influence through the development of a pipeline of K-12 public education advocates and investment in community-generated solutions.

Project Description

redefinED atlanta seeks a consultant who will establish and set up a plan for implementing an effective issues area field campaign in Atlanta, GA. For context, we have played a role as a funder and partner in the Atlanta education sector for the last nine years and have been a charter school supporter since its inception. redefinED atlanta has engaged in community engagement historically, and this year, we are looking to scale this program! We seek to hire field coordinators (one corresponding to each APS board seat) to engage and educate parents and community members on education issues in APS. 

Responsibilities:

The consultant will lead the following activities:

  • Review job description for organizers 
  • Help circulate job posting in networks
  • Conduct one screening interview for each post
  • Conduct training for organizers
    • Training will be adapted from similar training already conducted at redefinED atlanta and partner organizations 
  • Ongoing support
    • Launch canvas organizers
    • Establish mechanisms and metrics for accountability per week to ensure proper engagement at meetings, convenings, and door-knocking 
    • Establish check-in process including templates, meeting cadence, and proper  protocols involving data analysis and collection

  • Initial meeting with Staff
  • Written outline of process to be submitted for feedback one week ahead of meeting, including an outline of deliverables from the consultant and a timeline of necessary inputs from redefinED atlanta

Ongoing 

  • Meet bi-weekly for status updates, clarifying questions
  • Intermittent work product review where appropriate
  • Connections to valuable qualitative research conversations and other sources 

August 30

Finalize and transfer knowledge to redefinED atlanta for ongoing implementation

Qualifications and Skill Sets:

  • Experience completing field organizing at a management level for a campaign in the southeast. 
  • Experience engaging and mobilizing external stakeholders to action at the grassroots level
  • Ability to facilitate group sessions 
  • Capacity to create external-facing materials
  • Knowledge and experience with key K-12 education policy issues; understanding of Atlanta education, philanthropic, and political landscape preferred
