In 2016, redefinED atlanta made a commitment to children and families in the city of Atlanta. Our mission of ensuring every child in every community receives a great K-12 public education remains our focus. At the same time, factors such as affordable housing and displacement have impacted families in Atlanta and shifted where they live and send their children to school.
We began exploring expansion beyond the Atlanta Public Schools district in 2022 to support families that have relocated to other metro Atlanta districts and to address conditions for students experiencing the deepest inequities in public education. In Clayton County, we identified an increasing percentage of families with children transitioning into the area.
As an organization that funds critical work to drive equity in education, we are committed to listening and partnering with community members to inform our work. Throughout 2023, we’re engaging with families and community members in Clayton County to learn more about their desires for children’s K-12 public education.
