Transparency & Accountability

  • The Board approved FY26 budget amendments, including a $75,000 Jesse Parker Williams Foundation grant (over 3 years) to expand teletherapy mental health services, and a $3.2M Georgia State School Security grant to fund school resource officers, safety infrastructure, and training.
  • The Board voted to maintain the millage rate at 19.6 mills for FY26 (6 yes, 2 abstentions, 1 absent), resulting in modest property tax increases for homeowners and non-homestead properties.
    • FYI: A millage rate is the tax rate set by school boards to calculate property taxes that fund traditional public schools in a district. The millage rate represents the amount of tax owed for every $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.

School Options & Access

  • CCPS enrollment is under capacity by about 7,000 students overall. Within the past 5 years, the district saw enrollment decline by roughly 700, and enrollment is projected to decline by an additional 2-5% in the next five years. Declining enrollment is potentially tied to rising housing costs, declining birth rates, and an increase in alternative schooling options. Since enrollment numbers are directly tied to the amount of per pupil funding a school district receives, this can cause funding constraints down the line. Dive deeper into the details here.
    • To address this challenge, the district recommended consolidating a number of schools into new school construction sites, reallocating staff to address hard-to-fill vacancies, and expanding innovative programs like dual enrollment, art schools, and hybrid options to attract and retain students.
  • The Board approved the CTAE Perkins V Program Improvement Grant budget of $1.6M, an increase of $250K from FY25. Expanded funding will support CTAE extended year learning, industry certifications, and agricultural education extended day and school year opportunities.
  • CCPS is hosting a virtual school choice fair on Saturday, September 13th from 9am- 12pm. Families will have the opportunity to learn more about CCPS’ school and magnet program options. Families can register here.
