Accountability & Transparency
School year ‘25-’26 Calendar Discussion & Vote: The Board voted to accept the following 2025-2026 school year calendar. The vote was as follows:
- 6 Yes (Hill, Haney, Tellis Cooper, Straker, Baker)
- 1 Abstention (Williams)
- 2 No (Christmas, Goree)
District leaders shared that the calendar was developed with the intention to maximize professional learning days for teachers to enhance classroom instruction. Board member Goree raised concerns about potential calendar conflicts with other metro Atlanta schools, which could affect district employee attendance, and the need for more diverse stakeholder input. District leaders will convene a committee over the summer to develop calendars for the next two school years and present options to the Board in October 2025.
Policy Discussions & Vote: The Board reviewed recommended revisions to student-related policies on bullying, student hearing procedures, and medication provision. The Board will discuss the recommended revisions at the next board meeting. Notable revisions included:
- Bullying: Revisions made to update the definition of cyberbullying to comply with state policy (SB 351).
- Student Hearing Procedures: Revised to align with state policy (SB 269) to ensure students are provided with appropriate grade-level instructional materials while awaiting completion of a discipline hearing.
- Medication: Revised to align with Wesley’s Law, requiring schools to keep opioid antagonists on hand.
