Since our launch, we have engaged with parents and communities most impacted by the inequities in education. Their perspectives and desires for their student’s future help shape our beliefs.
We believe that in order to drive sustainable transformation, specific policy priorities must be created to address:
a. Improving existing schools by replicating/redesigning district-managed schools, introducing innovative concepts, partnering with successful organizations, and opening new great schools (including equitable access to facilities)
b. Families are able to access a neighborhood school or another school type that best fits their child and are provided with useful information and the necessary supports to enroll and attend
Reporting regularly, publicly, and consistently on school quality, student achievement and growth, and equity and (re-)designs solutions based on performance
Assessing families’ dreams and needs continuously, aligning its actions and decision-making accordingly, and communicating transparently about progress and challenges
Adopting a funding model that links money to each student based on need, facilitates school autonomy, and prioritizes school-based spending
Identifying, developing, and retaining the best people, including school leaders and teachers, to drive towards great schools
Identifying the best ideas, training, materials and partners to support schools and allowing school leaders to choose and partner/purchase as desired and within their budget
In development and implementation of specific policies related to the policy framework outlined above in 1-7, ensuring that conditions are created that enable just and fair inclusion of all students, families, and communities, especially Black, Latinx, and under-resourced communities
