Back-to-School Resources

We love back-to-school season here at redefinED atlanta. We believe every community member can get involved in K-12 public education to support positive student outcomes. We aim to help grow your understanding of K-12 public education by keeping you informed. We encourage you to explore the resources below, share them with your community, and join us in rallying support for students and schools.

Together, we can ensure that every child in every community receives a great K-12 public education.

We go further when we work together and take action. By signing on to the Atlanta Reimagining and Innovating for Schools Everywhere (A.R.I.S.E.) Pledge, you’ll join a growing collective of Atlantans committed to being K-12 public education cheerleaders. We’ll notify you of ways to take action for students in your community and beyond.

The Georgia Milestones is an annual assessment for students in public schools. It measures how students have learned English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies based on state standards. The results, released annually around back-to-school time, inform us about how public schools in Georgia are serving students. We review and summarize the data each year to make it easier for more people to understand.

We know every student, and every community has unique needs. The best school leaders and teachers can address students’ needs when given the trust, freedom, flexibility, and support to make the necessary changes for their students. It takes informed and active community members providing support and sharing recommendations with schools, the district, and elected officials for every student to receive a great K-12 public education.

We’re developing more resources to keep you informed about K-12 public education. We designed the Atlanta Schools Data Project to organize publicly available public school data in a user-friendly way. We invite you to check out the resource and share feedback about the site to help inform its development for the official launch during the 2023-2024 school year.

You can now access information about your local schools, learn how public schools work, and identify ways to take action in your community. Visit the Atlanta Schools Data Project to learn more!

Voting is a critical way to be civically engaged and help shape the future of education in Atlanta.

Atlanta schools will face another critical moment this November. In this election, we’ll elect school board officials to 5 odd district seats representing six geographical districts and three “at-large” districts. We must vote like our children’s futures depend on it – because they do.

The APS Board has an incredibly important role to play in decisions impacting Atlanta’s children. The Atlanta Board of Education establishes and approves the policies that govern the Atlanta Public School system.  The Board consists of nine members, representing six geographical districts and three “at-large” districts; in the November 2023 election, there will be odd district seats 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Make sure you are registered to vote to make your voice heard! The deadline to register for the Nov. 7 school board election is Oct. 10. Check your voter registration status and make a plan to vote on Nov. 7
